Prior to Preparing / Submitting a Draft Article For Consideration

Please read the following prior to submitting a draft article.

When preparing your draft article for submission, please follow the guidelines presented below. WTPP may not further consider any draft articles that do not meet the submission criteria described below.

Peer review: All unsolicited draft articles, prior to acceptance, undergo a peer review.  Each draft article selected for peer review is sent to several professionals considered experts in the topic area. After the completion of the review process, the editor makes a final decision and informs the author. If accepted, the exact issue and timing publication may vary depending on the issue's editorial theme.

Originality and Copyright: By submitting a draft article for consideration, authors agree to transfer copyright to TCSC for publication in WTPP. Authors also attest that the work is not an infringement of any existing copyright. Authors retain the right to use all or part of their article in future works of their own, such as lectures, press releases, reviews, textbooks, or reprint books.

Permissions: Do not include anything for which you do not own the copyright; we cannot accept anything that requires permissions from a third party, such as photos, images or tables from other sources. By submitting a draft article for consideration, authors attest that they own copyright to all images or that said images are available through a Creative Commons license according to the specific Creative Commons license for said image and they are attributed appropriately.

Preparing an Article for Consideration

Length: Articles should normally be between 3,000 and 7,000 words, not including Tables and Figures. Shorter articles are acceptable and may be published as ‘Comment’ pieces. Letters to the editor are also accepted, up to 250 words.

Content: Your manuscript should contain all of the following, in this order:

Title:  Typically 10 to 15 words.

Authors: Authors’ names should be listed in the order you wish them to be published.

Author Information. For each author, provide title and affiliation/organization. (Optional: include email addresses and/or phone numbers). Also, please provide one to two sentence biography of each author.

Word count: Please indicate number of words and number of tables and figures.

Abstract: Provide an abstract of about 75 words which summarizes the main points of the article. It should be sufficient for a reader to decide whether or not they want to read the whole article and for the Editor to determine how it would fit within a themed edition.

Keywords: Provide up to six keywords which describe the contents of the article. These could include geographical area, if appropriate, as well as mode, and / or a description of the policy or practice: e.g., traffic calming, traffic safety, land-use policy.  A keyword can be more than one word but no more than three.

References:  Use the author-date system for in-text citations; format all references consistent with standard practice. List all references alphabetically by author last name at the end of the text. Use TRB's Information for Authors /Guidelines for References as a guide.

Please follow these style and editorial guidelines

Use as little word processing formatting as possible—no more than is needed for clarity to identify heading levels. Font size 12.

Figures, tables, maps/photo: Limit the total number of tables, figures and maps to six; additional photos for context and visual interest may be allowed, space permitting. For the initial submission they should be embedded in the word document. (If your article is accepted, you will be asked to submit any images at a higher resolution suitable for publication.) All images, including figures, photos, charts and maps, should all be called Figures, and should all have a title and should be numbered consecutively. Tables should all have a title and should be numbered consecutively. Use a minimum font size of 10 within the table. Use the Table feature in MS word to create rows and columns.

Units of Measurement: International System of Units (SI) should be used throughout, with Imperial (English) equivalents optional in parentheses, e.g., 5 km (3.1 mi).

Acronyms and Abbreviations: Please define all acronyms at their first mention in the text. Do not assume readers will be familiar with any abbreviations or acronyms, regardless of how commonplace they are, given the international readership of this journal.
